Gavin: Our execution could have been better

Dublin manager Jim Gavin believes the margin of his side's victory over Kerry last night could have been much greater.

The Dubs got their National League title defence off to the perfect start with a 2-14 to 0-14 win over the Kingdom at Croke Park, where goals from Paddy Andrews and Diarmuid Connolly (penalty) proved the ultimate difference for the All-Ireland champions.

"The performance in certain phases was good," Gavin said afterwards.

"We created a lot of goal chances which we work on a lot in training so it was good to see some moves come off.

"Our execution could have been better. At half-time we said we had to sharpen things up. But to score 1-10 from play at this time of the year is pleasing."

Next up for the capital men is a trip to Castlebar next weekend when they take on Stephen Rochford's Mayo in a repeat of last year's All-Ireland SFC semi-final.
