O Se shoots down 'B' championship proposal

Kerry great Marc O Se has labelled the proposed introduction of a 'B' competition as a 'joke'.

When the subject was raised at the launch of the 27th PhoneWatch Comortas Peile Paidi O Se 2016, the five-time All-Ireland winner outlined his opposition to the Central Council backed motion.

"I am very lucky. I come from Kerry. We are very lucky. We win All-Irelands. We lose All-Irelands," he told The Irish Daily Star.

"But we are in a position to win or lose All-Irelands. I wouldn't like if I was playing with a so-called 'weaker county' and I was told that you were in a 'B' competition.

"What's the reason of playing at all if you can't compete for the Sam Maguire? I think it's a bit of a joke.

"Obviously I agree with changing up the system. I agree with maybe changing up the provinces or something like that, but for a GAA player to go out and be told has hasn't a chance of winning the Sam Maguire, for me, it's a joke to be honest."

Last week former GAA President Sean Kelly floated the idea of naming any new 'B' competition in honour of Marc's uncle Paidi but the 35-year-old remarked: "This is the first time I thought about it now when the question was asked.

"I suppose that Paidi holds the record along with four other fellas of winning Sam Maguire eight times.

"And he's being remembered then hypothetically for a competition he never played in so that possibly doesn't go with the territory."
