Sean Cavanagh and his five-in-a-row chasing Tyrone team-mates are bracing themselves for a tough test against Derry in the Dr McKenna Cup final.

Despite the concession of four goals, Mickey Harte's charges edged a high-scoring group encounter in Owenbeg a fortnight ago and they will renew acquaintances in the Athletic Grounds this evening (7.30pm).

"Derry under Damien Barton have come out as a different force in 2016," he outlined to The Strabane Chronicle.

"They perhaps should have beaten us that day in Owenbeg so it is going to be a big game for both sides.

"But that's what you want. At this time of year you are looking for competitive games and we know that is what we are going to get.

"It's mission accomplished in terms of getting a fifth match in the McKenna Cup and everyone is getting plenty of game time.

"It's giving everyone a chance to stake their claim for a place in the team."
