Kerry manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice is believed to have confirmed the retirement of Paul Galvin following today's McGrath Cup defeat to Clare.

It marks the second time that Galvin has hung up his boots with the Kingdom, having previously announced his retirement in February 2014.

Last March saw the 36-year-old make a sensational return to the green and gold jersey and despite being plagued with injury throughout 2015, the Finuge man made an appearance as a second-half substitute in the Munster champions' All-Ireland SFC final defeat to Dublin in September.

Speculating on his future afterwards, Galvin suggested that work commitments could prevent him from being involved in Kerry's 2016 campaign and it seems that Fitzmaurice has now confirmed that the former 'Footballer of the Year' has played his last game for his county.

There was some good news for Kerry fans today however, with the manager reportedly confirming that the rest of his squad, which returned home from a team holiday in Florida today, will be available to him this year, meaning the likes of Aidan O'Mahony and Marc O Se are set to prolong their illustrious inter-county careers.
