Cavan's prospects for the 2016 season have been boosted by the news that Seanie Johnston has returned to the senior football squad.

The talented forward was at the centre of a transfer saga when he switched his county allegiance to Kildare in 2012 but, speaking to the Irish Sun, Breffni boss Terry Hyland confirmed that the Cavan Gaels clubman has been named in a provisional panel for the new year.

"Sean has made himself available, we thought about and discussed it," explained Hyland.

"He had an operation on an ankle injury at the start of the year. That had been holding him back so it was only as the year went on that he was able to put those injury problems behind him.

"It's up to Sean now. Hopefully he can remain injury free and apply himself. He wouldn't have played with a lot of the players on the panel so he has to prove himself to them as well."
