Westmeath referee Alfie Devine was the centre of attention after brandishing five red cards in an ill-tempered Leinster 'Special' JHC final at Newbridge yesterday.

Laois side Ballypickas defeated Broadford 0-12 to 0-5 to claim the provincial honours, but the big talking point afterwards was the high number of red cards. Broadford were reduced to 13 players following the dismisssals of Tommy Reilly and Dean Hanley on second yellow and straight red cards in the 28th and 51st minutes respectively.

Ballypickas' Adrian McDonald also received his marching orders in stoppage-time before the Kildare outfit finished the game with just 11 players following the late dismissals of Bernard Reilly and David Reilly.
