Joe Kernan entered the record books last night after becoming the first manager to win major honours with his club, county, province and country.

As GAA president Aogán Ó Fearghail noted in his presentation speech after Ireland's International Rules Test victory, Kernan is the first manager to complete the unique quadruple.

He guided his native Crossmaglen to three All-Ireland club titles before overseeing Armagh's historic All-Ireland senior triumph in 2002. He has also delivered Inter-provincial glory to Ulster and can now add the Cormac McAnallen Cup to his glittering CV.

Kernan, who has another year to run as Ireland manager, believes the International Rules series has a bright future.

"This won't be good unless Australia make the effort…but Australia want this as much as us," he said.

"The competition has now gone to a different level because of the team Australia is sending over. It is a great win but that is going to make it harder next year," added the Armagh man, who expressed the hope that the series would revert to being played over two Tests.
