Joe Kernan was a relieved man after watching his Ireland team fall over the line in front against Australia this evening.

The Armagh man admitted the final quarter was too close for comfort as the visitors piled on the pressure.

"I'm very proud but I was definitely worried the last quarter there," he revealed to RTE.

"I thought our legs were going and our composure went but the boys hung in, some of the boys made a couple of good decisions near the end, regained their composure and got that last score that sealed it.

"But it was nerve-wrecking the last 20 minutes."

He added: "We're delighted with the win, we've been together for 12 weeks and then this last couple of weeks with the final squad.

"Personally I want to thank all the 60 or 70 boys that came in plus the backroom team, everybody that worked so hard.

"There were some boys who just missed the cut last week which is disappointing but you never know next year could be there year."
