New York GAA has welcomed the news that it has been offered a long-term lease on Gaelic Park by the MTA (Metropolitan Transportation Authority)

After four years of operating on a month-to-month basis, this move marks a significant expression of confidence in the New York county board on the part of the state transit body.

The security of the long-term lease will now pave the way for the long-awaited renovation of the Park and will allow for new dressing rooms, medical facilities, offices and a referee's room as well as a significant upgrading of the ballroom and dining area.

"We're delighted to have long term security at the home of Gaelic games in New York," New York GAA chairman Laurence McGrath said.

"We have waited a long time for this and we look forward to pushing ahead with the building of the new facilities.

"We intend to construct something that will make the Irish community proud and it will be a venue that will be open to all cultural groups."
