Kilkenny legend Henry Shefflin has revealed the breakdown in communications that occurred between him and manager Brian Cody as his career was drawing to a close in 2014.

An extract from Shefflin's upcoming autobiography was published in today's Irish Independent, revealing that the 10-time All-Ireland winner's exclusion from Kilkenny's starting 15 last year altered the strong relationship him and Cody had shared for 16 seasons.

Shefflin wrote: "I felt communication could have been better and I told him that. Eventually. There were certainly fewer chats between us as the dynamic of the relationship changed. Do I consider him a friend? Yes. But will we ever be buddy-buddy types, on the phone every second evening, chatting away for hours? No."

The Ballyhale Shamrocks man also recalls the struggles he endured in the drawn All-Ireland final against Tipperary at Croke Park, where he was asked to warm up three times before being brought on with three minutes remaining in the game.

"When we drawn the 2012 final, I departed the field, completely pumped by the performance I'd given. Now I was, it seemed, a three-minute man," he wrote.

'Henry Shefflin' will be published on Tuesday, September 22nd.
