Mickey Harte will have to go for an interview if he wants to continue as Tyrone football manager.

The Irish News is reporting that the Harte must go through an interview process, despite being the most successful manager in the Ulster county's history. Many Tyrone fans view the development as an insult to the three-time All-Ireland winning manager.

It was reported earlier this week that Harte was expected to continue as manager on a rolling one-year contract, but this has been dismissed by Tyrone chairperson Roisin Jordan. It appears that clubs will not have a say in the appointment of the senior manager, nor will they be given the opportunity to nominate candidates for the position.

The Ballygawley man expressed his desire to stay on for a 14th term after guiding the Red Hands to this year's All-Ireland SFC semi-final, but a motion seeking to extend his tenure was withdrawn at a county board meeting on Tuesday night.

Since becoming manager in 2002, Harte has always been given three-year terms, but this is the first time his contract has been allowed to expire.
