The GAA has confirmed that Dublin hurler Liam Rushe has had his two-match ban halved.

The centre back received a straight red card for striking Maurice Shanahan in the dying moments of Dublin's All-Ireland SHC quarter-final defeat by Waterford last month, and was proposed for a two-match suspension. But he will now only have to serve a one-match ban, more than likely at the start of next year's Allianz League.

A GAA statement read: "It was noted that CCCC accepted that the video evidence produced was sufficiently compelling to show that the infraction as alleged was not proven but submitted that the facts proven disclosed an infraction less serious than that alleged in the Notice of Disciplinary Action, that is to say striking with the hurley with minimal force."

Dublin and Armagh county boards also lost their appeal against €6,500 fines arising from the brawl which marred the start of their SF challenge in Glasnevin in early July.
