Jim Gavin was giving nothing away as to whether Dublin would appeal Diarmuid Connolly's red card after yesterday's draw with Mayo.

The Dubs are expected to launch an appeal in a bid to have the St. Vincent's man available for next Saturday's replay after his injury-time dismissal following an off-the-ball incident involving Lee Keegan, who was issued with a yellow card.

"I'll have to have a look at it," the Dublin manager said.

"It would be very unfair of me to comment. Joe (McQuillan) made the decision based on whatever information he received. He made that call, as he did for the black cards and some other cards that might not have been given. We'll have to have a look at all those."

Gavin wasn't making an issue of the early flashpoint that left Rory O'Carroll requiring 10 stitches to a nasty head wound.

"Rory had something off the ball. We haven't seen it yet but his eye was closed so he wasn't fit to return back for the game. It will settle down over the coming days. His eye was closing," he explained.

The Dublin boss also expects yesterday's encounter to bring his team on.

"A match like that will do our lads the world of good. They haven't experienced that intensity all season. It's four weeks since their last game and we'll be a better team for it the next day."
