Damien Comer's 42nd minute goal sent Galway on the road to a round 2B victory over Armagh at the Athletic Grounds.

Comer scored the game's only goal when getting a fist to a Paul Conroy free that dropped short and that proved to be the difference between the sides at the final whistle.

The Kevin Walsh managed team absorbed everything that the Orchard County threw at them in the time that remained and held on for a deserved victory.

Both teams lined out as selected and Galway drew first blood when Conroy found the target with a free.

The Tribemen's captain doubled their early advantage before Ethan Rafferty and Miceal McKenna got the Orchard County back on level terms.

Played in front of an official attendance of 9,367, there was little separating the sides throughout the first-half but a late scoring burst by the visitors, which yielded points from Comer, Gary Sice and Conroy (free), sent them in at the break holding a 0-9 to 0-7 advantage.

Sice and Rafferty traded frees at the start of the second-half before the game's pivotal moment arrived  and Galway had one foot in the next round, leading by 1-10 to 0-8, courtesy of Comer's green flag.

Further points from half-time substitute Danny Cummins, who replaced Sean Denvir, and Sice (free) copper-fastened their control on proceedings.

White flags from Mark Shields and Aidan Forker kept Armagh, who had a penalty claim waved away in the 58th minute, within touching distance but they had left themselves with too much to do.

Gary Sice and Cathal Sweeney were shown black cards late on but Galway's name will be in tomorrow morning's draw while it's back to the drawing board for McGeeney and his Armagh players.
