Former Armagh boss calls for patience

Former Armagh co-manager and goalkeeper Brian McAlinden has pleaded for patience while Kieran McGeeney puts his stamp on the team.

McAlinden, who was joint-manager of the Orchard County along with Brian Canavan when they ended a 17-year wait for Ulster SFC honours in 1999, is currently involved as goalkeeping coach.

"It took myself and Brian (Canavan) four years to get a championship and this is Kieran's first year, so supporters are going to have to be realistic and give him time," McAlinden told the Irish News.

"The players have to buy into what he wants them to do, but if the players show the commitment and conviction that Kieran gives, I have no doubt that a provincial championship will come sooner rather than later."

Following their heavy Ulster SFC quarter-final loss to Donegal, Armagh got back to winning ways against Wicklow last weekend and can now look forward to a Round 2B All-Ireland qualifier against Galway on Saturday week.

"Galway will be a lot sharper, a lot cuter, a lot quicker and more clinical than Wicklow were," McAlinden warned.
