McConville concerned for banned Connolly

Oisin McConville hopes Monaghan footballer Thomas Connolly receives the support he needs after being hit with a two-year ban for doping.

The Latton man, who lined out for the Farney County in this year's McKenna Cup competition, tested positive for stanozolol when he provided an out-of-competition urine sample on February 13.

"I'm just so disappointed for the lad. I'd seriously wonder about that lad's state of mind and if he's getting any help as a result of it," McConville remarked to the Irish Sun.

"You would hope now that there is some support network there for him.

"I would be worried for that lad, and hopefully he is getting the proper support that he deserves and even though he is a fringe player, he still deserves to get the back-up that the GAA or the GPA have to offer."

The former Armagh and Crossmaglen ace doesn't believe the use of performance enhancing drugs is common in gaelic games.

"Are there people on performance-enhancing drugs? I don't know the answer to that but I'd say you'd be able to count them on one hand if there is any.

"I don't think it is something that's prevalent. I think it was a genuine mistake."
