Controversial DUP politician Nelson McCausland has compared the Casement Park redevelopment project to the classic BBC sitcom Fawlty Towers.

McCausland, who has been one of the GAA's fiercest critics in the past, is chairman of a Stormont committee which is holding an inquiry into safety concerns surrounding the proposed new stadium.

The project was refused planning permission last December, and while a fresh application is set to be lodged soon, McCausland is warning that it has the potential to fall apart.

"No-one seems to know anything. It's almost like Fawlty Towers, and Manuel - 'I know nothing'. That's how this is operating," the chairman of the culture, arts and leisure committee said this week.

"Everybody's saying: 'Nobody told me, I didn't know. There's something wrong in the system in the way it's been operating."

The former DUP minister also described the project as "shambolic and dysfunctional."

The SDLP's Dominic Bradley has accused Mr McCausland of drawing premature conclusions and trying to undermine the inquiry.
