Kernan: we've our work cut out

Tony Kernan admits Armagh face a tough task against Donegal today.

The Orchard County plied their trade in Division 3 of the Allianz League during the spring and the long-serving Crossmaglen clubman accepts that Rory Gallagher's men will represent a big step-up in quality from what they've been used to playing.

"We will certainly be well prepared and anyone who knows Kieran (McGeeney) knows that we will be well prepared," Kernan said in the Newry Democrat.

"We feel a lot more positive about the squad than the last few years and some of that has come from performances but we can't lose the realistic view of where we are - we are a Division 3 team playing a Division 1 team and we are up against it.

"We have our work cut out and we have to perform to our highest ability we have plus the boys who come on - so we have got to be realistic as well as optimistic."

Tony revealed that he occasionally seeks advice from older brother Aaron, who retired from the inter-county scene last year.

"It is very different as I spent so much time with Aaron," he added.

"I did a lot with Aaron, we practised frees together after training, we sat together in the bus and we roomed together and he was the person I would have spoken to.

"It was strange coming in this year but I speak to him on a daily basis and he is always asking about Armagh and if there is any advice I need I just pick up the phone to him. But it was weird not having him there at the start, but I have got used to it now."
