Alan Nolan hopes to be named between the posts for Dublin's Leinster SHC opener against Galway.

Nolan is the incumbent, having featured in last year's championship for the Dubs after long-term 'keeper Gary Maguire sustained an injury to open the door to his understudy. Grabbing the opportunity with both hands, Nolan was nominated for an All Star.

With Dublin now managed by former Cork goalkeeping great, Ger Cunningham, the battle is on for the No.1 shirt against the Tribesmen at Croke Park on Sunday:

"I suppose we're at it the last few years," the St Brigid's clubman comments in The Irish Independent. "It was just the fact that Gary had never got injured and he'd always played.

"And I suppose now that I've played in the championship, people are raising questions who'll be in. But the two of us are always going hard at each other; Conor Dooley is there with us as well. So we're pushing each other hard and just training as much as we can."
