TJ Ryan was loud in his praise of teenage debutant Cian Lynch after his man of the match performance against Clare.

A nephew of Limerick legend Ciaran Carey, Lynch scored three points and saw off a succession of markers in a brilliant display as the Treaty County edged out their neighbours by a point.

"He's a real gem.," manager Ryan said.

"I give credit to the minor set-up for the last few years, their programme, we have Tom Morrissey on the panel as well, and they're very seasoned mentally and physically having come through that set-up."

Ryan admitted that he expected more injury-time to be added on at the end.

"I thought it was a great end, winning by a point," he continued.

"I'll take that any day. I turned to Mike (O'Riordan) and he said there was a minute, I did see four on the board.

"I'd say there was a bit of confusion for everybody when he (referee Colm Lyons) blew up a minute and a half into it, but look, I'd say ye'll (the media) be writing late into the night.

"It mightn't have been a brilliant game but the second half turned into action, I thought when we went six up that we were in a good position but they rattled back into it with two great goals.

"I give huge credit to our guys, the pride and passion they showed in the jersey today was incredible, I'm delighted for them and for the backroom team. The effort, time and energy gone into planning for the game - plans A, B, C and so on - to get the win today is hugely satisfying."
