Ryan backed by county board

Kildare manager Jason Ryan has received the dreaded vote of confidence from the county board.

There was speculation that Ryan and his backroom team could be removed from their positions ahead of the Leinster championship, after the Lilywhites suffered back to back relegations and will now ply their trade in Division Three next year.

County Board chairman Ger Donnelly stressed to delegates at the most recent county board meeting that "now is not the time to change managers but rather get behind the team and all involved with both the Leinster championship and the All-Ireland series still to come."

The Leinster Leader reports that Donnelly added: "If we don't send out the message that we are behind them we are actually going to be in a worse position than we are at present."

Donnelly did admit that Kildare football was in a crisis at the moment after delegates had stressed that was the case, but he implored that nothing would be done until after the championship.
