Colm Cooper's comeback from a cruciate knee injury is a highlight of what has been a 'Jekyll and Hyde' league campaign for All-Ireland champions Kerry.

The Gooch came off the bench in the 63rd minute as the Kingdom got the result they needed against Tyrone to preserve their Division 1 status.

"It was great to see him back," manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice told The Examiner.

"Colm has been coming a long time and to get back into the mix again he has worked hard and it's great for him to finally get a bit of closure on his injury.

"He is back and has played a competitive game and is ready to go now."

Other experienced players like Marc O Se and Darran O'Sullivan also played their part in keeping the Kingdom in the top flight.

"It was important to have that bit of experience but you'd still felt we should have closed it out a bit better when we had a few points of a lead and should have held onto it but didn't quite manage that.

Fitzmaurice concluded:  "Overall, it's been a Jekyll and Hyde league. There have been some very good days, some poor days and some mixed days like today.

"We got seven points, we are still there next year and like I said, plenty to work on."
