Evans: Promotion is a mindset

Roscommon manager John Evans admits that they have to look at the remaining games differently now they are genuine promotion candidates.

Evans has always stressed that their main goal was to avoid relegation and although that has never really been a concern, the Kerry native would not hear of talk about promotion.

Last weekend's win over Meath leaves Roscommon second in the table with two games to go and their fate is in their own hands.

And the Rossies' manager admitted to the Roscommon Herald that they have to regroup following their win over the Royals last Sunday.

"We're safe and that was the only thing on our mind coming into the game. We haven't contemplated anything else," said Evans.

"We'll have to sit down and look at it because that's a mindset. It's a dangerous mindset to be coming into this league looking for promotion. You don't look for promotion until after the fifth round.

"It was a team effort. The lads themselves would say that they were lethargic and dead in the first half. But there was heart oozing through them and their tackling was superb in the second half."

Roscommon take on a Galway side desperate for points to avoid relegation this Sunday.
