1996 Wexford All-Ireland winning manager Liam Griffin believes Henry Shefflin's achievements on the hurling field will never be surpassed.

The Cats legend is expected to announce his retirement from the intercounty scene at a press conference in Langton's Hotel in Kilkenny today and, speaking to The Irish Independent, Griffin said: "You can talk about him in the same terms as Paul O'Connell, Brian O'Driscoll and AP McCoy, maybe even more so because has done what he has done as an amateur.

"So you could say that he has climbed Kilimanjaro as well as Everest in that respect.

"He has given so many people so much pleasure for so long. It's been an incredible career."

The former Model boss continued:  "He must have had massive support from his family to be able to sustain that level of commitment so long and to come back from so many injuries and perform to such a high standard.

"Hurling will miss him. We'll all miss him, no matter what county you come from."
