Ger Cunningham insists he was never worried about Dublin ending up in the relegation playoff against Kilkenny.

As it transpired, a brilliant second half performance against Galway, coupled with Clare's defeat to the Cats, saw the Dubs claim a quarter-final berth against Limerick instead.

"We were looking at a quarter-final all the time," the Dublin manager said.

"We never mentioned anything about relegation. We started the campaign well. We gave ourselves a good chance by winning our first two matches and it's taken us three more games to get to the quarter-final.

"Delighted with the result and the the performance."

Cunningham admitted that Dublin were bitterly disappointed not to have taken something from last weekend's trip to Ennis.

"We felt we could have won last week or at least got a point. By not getting the result, we felt a bit of frustration. They wanted to bring that to the game today. They wanted the chance to get to the quarter-final and secure the status an we've done that."
