Cribbin expecting tough test

Westmeath manager Tom Cribbin knows that his young under-21 charges will face a stiff test against Meath in the Leinster football championship.

The Lake County face their rivals at Pairc Tailteann tonight (Wednesday) in the first of two meetings between the counties in three days, as the senior sides meet in the Division Two campaign on Saturday night.

Cribbin admitted to the Westmeath Examiner that they have a very young side compared to the Royals who have six senior players in their starting line up.

"The under-21 team, I think ten or 12 of them are underage again next year, but they're good footballers," said Cribbin. "Meath have five or six lads on the senior team and that makes them very, very strong. I don't know what they're back up is like.

"Our first 15, 16 or 17 are good. After that we are very young. I wouldn't say we're not good. It's just that we are very young and light.

"Football wise and quality wise, we'll be there or thereabouts as long as we don't pick up injuries. They have seven or eight lads with the seniors and doing that development work, that's where it will be tough for us."
