Roscommon's Colin Compton scored 0-8 as Garda College overcame St. Pat's to lift the Trench Cup at the Mardyke today.

Peter McGee - a younger brother of Donegal defenders Neil and Eamon - scored the game's only goal early in the second half for the Templemore-based outfit who had held a slender 0-5 to 0-4 lead at half-time. With Compton kicking three points, Garda raced into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead, but they were pegged back by the student teachers before the break.

However, Garda College bossed the second half with McGee's goal propelling them into a 1-8 to 0-4 lead. St. Pat's disappointment was compounded when Dublin star Cormac Costello missed a late penalty.

Costello (0-4) and fellow Dub Ciaran Kilkenny (0-3) scored 0-7 between them.
