Over 1,000 Gaelic football players will compete in the 26th annual PhoneWatch Comórtas Peile Páidí Ó Sé which takes place today and tomorrow.

Thirty-six adult men's and ladies club teams have descended on the Dingle Penisula for what is regarded as one of the biggest football festivals in the country.

Supported by PhoneWatch, Opel Ireland, Lee Strand Milk, Fáilte Ireland, Kerry County Council, and Newstalk 106-108FM, the event has attracted over 10,000 club players since its inception in 1989 and has grown into a major international GAA event with senior, intermediate and junior clubs travelling this year from 11 different counties as well as from Madrid, Brussels and parts of England.

The Defence Forces, who have Kildare stars Gary White and Padraig Fogarty among their ranks, will do battle with seven other teams for the senior men's cup, which is named after the former Defence Forces Chief of Staff Dermot Earley.

The late Páidí's son, Pádraig Óg Ó Sé said: "We are delighted the Comórtas continues to attract clubs from all over the world. We welcome the Defence Forces this year under management including Captain Dermot Earley Junior, son to the legendary Dermot who was a great friend of my Dad."
