Kilkenny have named an understrength team for Saturday's Allianz Hurling League opener against Cork.

The Cats are short a number of players for the Pairc Ui Rinn clash, including attacking trio Richie Power (knee), John Power (hernia) and Eoin Larkin (groin) - as well as five from All-Ireland club finalists Ballyhale Shamrocks.

This leaves room for some fresh faces with Darren Brennan, Padraig Gahan and Keith Hogan, brother of the retired Brian, among the newcomers on the bench.

Interestingly, Brian Cody has included Paul Murphy at full back. The Danesfort star fills the void left by the retired JJ Delaney.

Kilkenny (HL Division 1A v Cork) - Eoin Murphy; Tomas Keogh, Paul Murphy, Jackie Tyrrell; Brian Kennedy, Kieran Joyce, Cillian Buckley; Conor Fogarty, Lester Ryan; Padraig Walsh, Walter Walsh, Matthew Ruth; Mark Kelly, Jonjo Farrell, Richie Hogan.

Subs: Darren Brennan, Willie Phelan, Michael Walsh, Shane Prendergast, Geoff Brennan, Joe Lyng, Padraig Gahan, Bill Staunton, Ger Malone, Keith Hogan, Kevin Kelly.
