Tyrone tactics frustrate Higgins

Keith Higgins admits he found Tyrone's blanket defence very difficult to play against.

Speaking to the Western People after Mayo's surprise 1-7 to 1-11 defeat to the Red Hands in Castlebar, the new captain said: "Any time they have 14 or 15 men behind the ball it's going to be difficult.

"But look, you're going to have challenges like that. It's just up to us now, if we face it again, to try and find a way to overcome it.

"There were times there in the first half where we broke through and we probably had chances, but we just didn't take them. Again in the second half, we had a lot of wides. That's probably down to a bit of frustration, losing concentration and just taking snapshots."

The Ballyhaunis clubman also expressed disappointment with Mayo's finishing.

"That's not good enough," he replied after being informed that the Connacht champions had 15 wides.

"But when you're playing a mass defence like that, you're not getting your shots off from the best situations or angles. It's just up to us to find a way to overcome it."
