Derry are expected to appeal the straight red card Mark Lynch received against Kerry yesterday.

The Derry captain is facing the prospect of missing the local derby clash with Tyrone in three weeks' time after being controversially dismissed by referee Joe McQuillan in the 50th minute of the Oak Leaf County's 0-13 to 1-17 loss to the All-Ireland champions at Celtic Park.

"The sending off really put the card among the pigeons and finished us off," an unimpressed Derry manager Brian McIver said.

"The ref gave it for a high elbow tackle. But to me, it wasn't that much different to one of the tackles earlier which a Kerryman got a yellow card for."

Kerry boss Eamonn Fitzmaurice also felt Lynch was hard done by.

"I didn't have a very good view of it, but it did look hard," he said.
