Caolan Mooney was pleased to make his return to the Down colours at the weekend.

The former AFL star came off the bench in Newbridge on Sunday and helped himself to a goal as the Mourne County came from behind to defeat Kildare in their Division Two opener.

"I was with Jordanstown in the McKenna Cup and this is my first game this season for Down, I was just glad to come down and get a win," the 21-year-old Rostrevor flyer tells The Irish News.

"Hopefully we'll get another two points on Saturday night and keep going from there.

"I last played for Down in July, 2011. There's very few of the same team still here - only Mark Poland, Kevin McKernan, Peter Fitzpatrick and Conor Garvey.

"It's a new team, a really fresh-looking Down team. There are a lot of talented players in the squad now."
