Longford defender Enda Williams says it will be an "emotional enough sort of occasion" for him when lines out against his former Leitrim team-mates today.

Williams captained Longford to a famous Leinster MFC title in 2002 and represented the county at senior level from 2004 until 2011 before transferring to neighbouring Leitrim, which is where his late father hailed from.

He wore the Leitrim jersey for two years before returning to his native county last year.

Speaking to the Longford Leader ahead of today's Allianz League Division 4 opener in Carrick-on-Shannon, the wing back admitted: "It is going to be an emotional enough sort of occasion, going back to a place where you played for a couple of years.

"I have to control my emotions and concentrate on what I can control. But the most important thing is that Longford go down to Carrick-on-Shannon, get two points and start off our promotion push. That's my goal."

He added: "Leitrim will be very motivated because it is a local derby against us. I know exactly what to expect. They take a lot of pride in wearing the jersey and if we don't match them in terms of commitment and passion and effort, we're going to struggle big time."
