Wexford hurling has been rocked by the news that Keith Rossiter is quitting inter-county hurling.

The 31-year-old attended training last night to inform his team-mates that he was bringing the curtain down on his 11 years in the Model County jersey.

"It's something I've been thinking about probably since last year," the Oulart-The Ballagh clubman explained to The Irish Independent.

"The game is changing, and training has changed in the last couple of years. It's a serious commitment.

"In my own eyes I'd have looked at 2014, coming into that season, as being my last one.

"No one knew that, but it was always at the back of my mind."

Rossiter leaves with his head held high after giving it his all in 2014.

"I really went at it last year. I left no stone unturned. I did every bit of training that all the guys were doing and did more myself.

"I don't think I could put the same effort in, training wise, that I put in last year. At this stage of my career, the body's not able to go through what it used to be able to go through. That's the deciding factor.

He added: "Liam Dunne's not an easy man to say 'no' to, but I just feel for myself it's time."
