David Kelly is expected to be fit for Sligo's Allianz Football League opener against Limerick on Sunday week.

New manager Niall Carew says the highly-rated Tubbercurry star on the verge of a return after undergoing hernia surgery at the end of last year.

"David had the hernia operation before Christmas and surgery like that can lead to other problems, but it's a case of so far, so good. He should be back for the Limerick game," Carew explained to the Irish Daily Mirror.

"He just needs to get a run of training and games now, keep free from injury and get the bit of pace that he always had back into him."

The Yeats County will travel to Limerick without defender Brendan Egan, who is preparing for St. Vincent's All-Ireland club SFC semi-final against Corofin, while a hamstring injury is threatening Stephen Coen's participation. Carew is also planning without midfielder Adrian McIntyre, who has retired from inter-county football.
