Armagh boss Kieran McGeeney believes referees aren't doing enough to protect his "marquee" attacker Jamie Clarke.

Clarke, who started yesterday's McKenna Cup win over Antrim in an unfamiliar wing back role before pushing forward, was sent off on a second yellow card with seven minutes remaining. He picked up his first booking in the 49th minute.

"It's unfortunate for Jamie because he's so good on the ball and he can go around players, and players get frustrated," McGeeney told the Irish News after securing his first win as Orchard County manager.

"They shout at him and he lashes out. He shouldn't, but you would like to see a bit more protection for him too. It shouldn't matter that he can take the ball around players.

"It's frustrating for him, but he has to learn to be disciplined. I know there wasn't much in it, but he lashed back a bit. He's our marquee player and you like to see him play."

McGeeney praised midfielder Aaron Findon for his man of the match display.

"He's playing well and doing a good job," he continued.

"There's a lot more to his game to what he was doing in the first half. He's strong, he's very good on the ball and he makes good decisions and that's what we'd like to see."
