Mayo's Gavin Duffy. INPHO

Former Connacht and Ireland rugby star Gavin Duffy will make his debut for the Mayo senior footballers against IT Sligo in his home town of Ballina this afternoon.

Duffy, who played in the 1999 All-Ireland minor final defeat to Down, was called up to the squad last summer by former manager James Horan after he was released by Connacht Rugby, but has had to wait until now to make his competitive bow.

The Salthill/Knocknacarra clubman will partner Barry Moran at midfield in a team that includes five other debutants - Steven Duffy, Michael Hall, Patrick Durcan, Morgan Lyons and Peter Dravins.

Mayo (SF v IT Sligo): D Clarke; K Keane, D Vaughan, S Duffy; M Hall, K Rogers, P Durcan; G Duffy, B Moran; K McLoughlin, M Lyons, P Dravins; E Regan, A Freeman, M Sweeney.
