The Christmas cobwebs were dusted off over the weekend as the 2015 gaelic football season got underway ... here's our team of the week.

1. Rob Hennelly (Mayo)

The Mayo number one came to his side's rescue with a fine save to deny Peadar O Griofa what would have been an injury-time winning goal for NUIG.

2. Martin Kane (Antrim)

Afterwards manager Frank Fitzsimons admitted it wasn't pretty but was pleased to see off the challenge of St Mary's and Kane played his part.

3. Paul McConway (Offaly)

The Tullamore man and his defensive colleagues kept Laois at bay as Pat Flanagan enjoyed a winning start to life as Offaly manager.

4. Cathal McCarron (Tyrone)

Mickey Harte was delighted with the display of the 2013 All-Star nominee on his return to the Red Hand jersey.

5. John Small (Dublin)

Did his chances of forcing his way into Jim Gavin's plans no harm at all with a polished performance against Maynooth.

6. Gary Reynolds (Leitrim)

Reynolds was to the fore as holders Leitrim got their defence of the FBD League off to a winning start against GMIT.

7. Ciaran Cafferkey (Roscommon)

Roscommon enjoyed the perfect start to the new year against IT Sligo and Cafferkey & Co were miserly in defence.

8. Mark Lynch (Derry)

The Oak Leaf captain pulled the strings as Derry saw off the challenge of an understrength Donegal.

9. Gearoid McKiernan (Cavan)

McKiernan and his partner Killian Clarke laid the foundations for the Breffni County's five-point victory over Down.

10. Michael Martin (Galway)

Martin and Eddie Hoare caused plenty of problems for the Sligo rearguard in Enniscrone.

11. Sean Quigley (Fermanagh)

The Ernesiders scored a seven-point McKenna Cup victory over Queen's and Quigley was their top scorer with 1-5, 1-2 from play.

12. Graham Reilly (Meath)

Reilly captained the Royals against Westmeath in the absence of Donal Keogan and led by example with six superbly executed points.

13. Daroch Mulhall (Kildare)

The Louth defence won't recall having to contend with Mulhall with any great fondness after conceding eight points to the Athy forward.

14. John Hayes (Cork)

The Rebel County enjoyed a facile victory over Mary Immaculate at Mallow and their full-forward put his name to 1-5.

15. Brendan McElroy (Monaghan)

The lively Farney corner-forward sent over four points from play against UUJ.
