Derry 1-16

Donegal 0-8

Rory Gallagher's debut as Donegal manager ended in a heavy defeat to Derry at Owenbeg.

Emmet McGuckin's 15th minute goal set the Oak Leafers up for the win over an understrength Donegal side that included four debutants. That goal helped the hosts to a 1-5 to 0-5 half-time lead as Donegal were left the rue 10 first half wides.

Brian McIver's men tightened their grip on proceedings with points from Mark Lynch (free), Daniel McKinless and James Kearney (free) within eight minutes of the restart. Brothers Barry and Sean Leo McGoldrick also got in on the scoring act as the home side cruised to victory.
