Manager Terry Hyland has confirmed that Alan Clarke won't be involved with the Cavan footballers next year.

The captain of the past two seasons is getting married early in the New Year and also has a busy work schedule which has prompted him to take a year out from inter-county football.

"Alan is not committing next year," Hyland told the Irish News.

"He's getting married towards the end of January. He said he was probably going to be gone for the McKenna Cup and the start of the National League anyway.

"He's very heavily committed with work and getting married as well, he said he wouldn't be around until the start of March anyway, so he said he'd take a break this year.

"If he comes back to me in March and says he's willing to come back, then of course you would reconsider."

Hyland also revealed that his new squad - which has yet to be finalised - will include last year's All-Ireland junior winners David Wright and Paul Smith from Castlerahan.
