Kerry star Darran O'Sullivan has criticised the GAA's decision to impose a 48-week ban on his Glenbeigh/Glencar club colleague Joe McGillicuddy.

The Leicester-based McGillicuddy was hit with the lengthy suspension for playing with local side Naomh Padraig in the St. Jude's All-Ireland Sevens junior competition in September, despite being registered with Glenbeigh/Glencar.

McGillicuddy was of the understanding that the Sevens competition wasn't officially sanctioned by the GAA and thus believed that he wasn't contravening any rules. However, he was banned by Croke Park last Thursday night and a subsequent appeal to the Central Appeals Committee also failed.

The player is now facing the prospect of missing Glenbeigh/Glencar's Kerry JFC semi-final against Brosna and any other games they will be involved in over the next 48 weeks, and Darran O'Sullivan is far from impressed with the situation judging by his comments on twitter:

(2/2) of the All Ireland, a days wages lost & cost of flights to come home to get a ban for playing in a nothing kiss my arse competition!
