Meath 1949 All-Ireland winner Seamus Heery passes away

The late Seamus Heery
The death has occurred of Seamie Heery, who was a member of the Meath team that brought the Sam Maguire Cup to the county for the first time in 1949.
Seamie made his championship debut for Meath in the second round game versus Wexford in 1949 and participated in all three games of the saga against Louth. He was at right full back in those clashes and for the Leinster Final win at Westmeaths expense. The Rathkenny man was switched to right-half-back for the All-Ireland semi-final victory over Mayo and starred in that position during the historic All-Ireland final encounter with Cavan.
Seamie led the Divisional team, North Meath, to Senior Championship success in 1950 and, as a result, was captain of the Meath team in 1951. The Leinster title was regained but Seamie's dreams of receiving the Sam Maguire Cup were dashed by Mayo in the All-Ireland final.
As well as North Meath, he played with Rathkenny, and later with Navan O'Mahonys.
He is an uncle of current meath manager Mick O'Dowd.

Funeral arrangements
Reposing at his daughter Orla's residence, Starinagh, Collon from 3pm until 9pm tomorrow evening (Thursday) and from 3pm until 9pm on Friday evening.
Removal on Saturday morning at 11.15am to the Church of Mary Immaculate, Collon for Funeral Mass at 12pm. Burial afterwards in New Cemetery, Collon. Family Flowers only.
