Cork chairman Bob Ryan has welcomed the news that the GAA is to contribute €20 million towards the redevelopment of Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

With €30 million in Government funding also earmarked for the €70 million project, it means the Rebels will have to come up with €20 million themselves, half of which they already have in savings.

The funding is €5 million more than what the GAA is contributing to the £80 million redevelopment of Casement Park in Belfast. However, the new Páirc Uí Chaoimh will have a bigger capacity (45,000 compared to Casement's 40,000).

Commenting on the funding announcement in the Irish Examiner, Ryan said: "It's superb and will give a fantastic boost to Gaelic games in Cork."
