Austin Stacks 2-13
Mid Kerry 1-7
Kieran Donaghy turned in a man of the match performance as Austin Stacks claimed their first Bishop Moynihan Cup in 20 years with a nine-point victory over Mid Kerry in today's replay at Fitzgerald Stadium.
The veteran Kerry star rounded off a memorable couple of months by scoring 1-2 and also winning the penalty which yielded Stacks' second goal. Donaghy struck the opening goal in the eighth minute as the Tralee side stromed into an early 1-3 to 0-0 lead. Seven minutes later, he was taken down for a penalty by Mid Kerry goalkeeper Michael Moriarty which wing back Pat McCarthy converted to extend the winners' advantage.
Gavan O'Grady responded with a brace of points for the shell-shocked divisional side who retired at the break trailing by 0-3 to 2-7.
Stacks continued to dictate proceedings in a second half which saw free-taker Shane Carroll bring his tally to 0-5. O'Grady, who finished as the game's top-scorer with 1-4, grabbed a late consolation goal for a well beaten Mid Kerry outfit.
The black and ambers, after a trio of county final defeats in 2001, 2010 and 2013 (when Dr Crokes hammered them by 16 points), can now look forward to a Munster club SFC semi-final against first-time Cork champions Ballincollig in two weeks' time.
