Australia assistant coach Ross Lyon has said that they will be preparing for next month's International Rules Test in Perth against Ireland as though it were an AFL game.

After a run of poor performances in the last couple of series, the Australians are keen to put forth a better display this time round and senior coach Alastair Clarkson has been rigorously preparing his squad for the November 22 showdown at Patersons Stadium in Perth.

"As Alastair said, we don't want to roll up all hoping," Lyon told the Irish Independent.

"He's sent out some educational videos on how the Irish play and how we want to play. We've all watched them."

"I've had some games sent to me from previous series that I'll be able to watch and get an insight into the game and the strategies. That will help me in the one-off game to contribute," he added.

Lyon said he is relishing the clash as it will see two teams with players at the top of their game coming head-to-head.

"It's a privilege, it's an honour and you're really looking forward to a high-performance environment surrounded by elite performers," said Lyon.

"What you'll get to see is the very best players preparing and going about their footy at a very close level, and the coaches, too. When you look at the status of the coaches within the AFL, they sit at a high level."
