Aidan O'Mahony's All-Ireland final football boots have been auctioned for a cool €28,000.

After last month's All-Ireand SFC final victory over Donegal, the Kerry star gave the boots to a young Killarney boy, Diarmuid De Bhillis, who attends the "Home from Home" after-school care facility for children with special needs.

O'Mahony spotted Diarmuid in the front row at Croke Park as Kerry were doing their lap of honour and presented him with the boots. The boy's family subsequently contacted the Kingdom defender and asked for his permission to auction the boots to raise funds for the "Home from Home" facility.

O'Mahony gave them his blessing and went a step further by bringing the boots to the annual dinner of the Kerry Association in London, where they generated a sum of £23,000 in a charity auction.

Diarmuid's grandfather Sean Kelly was full forward on Kerry's 1953 All-Ireland winning team.
