Bookies favourite Rory Gallagher has officially entered the race to succeed Jim McGuinness as Donegal senior football manager.

According to The Irish Independent, Gallagher has been nominated for the position by Kilcar, the club he currently manages.

He joins Paddy Carr, Cathal Corey and Anthony Harkin on the list of nominations and interviews are due to begin next week.

Former assistant manager Gallagher is understood to have spoken to some prospective backroom team members ahead of the interviews.

Interestingly, Ardara man Harkin was the team trainer in 1992 when Donegal won the All-Ireland and is the current coaching officer in the county.
