Brian Cody has described Henry Shefflin's record-breaking 10th All-Ireland success as "mind-boggling".

Cody is being described as the greatest manager in the history of the GAA after masterminding a 10th Liam MacCarthy Cup win for Kilkenny since 2000, but he insists Shefflin's achievement is the real story of the 2014 hurling championship.

"Henry's achievement is the one to talk about," Cody said.

"The manager stays as young as ever, but the player gets older. It's a different thing you see. He's challenged in every possible way from a physical point of view. He has gone through the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune obviously with injury.

"To be here still at this level challenging for his place and to be absolutely challenging for his place and then to have the deserved privilege of winning - and he deserved to win it - his 10th All-Ireland is mind-boggling stuff.

"I thought it might never be done, but there are a few fellas creeping up behind him that might do it as well. It's a magnificent time for Henry and some of the other players."
