Record title holders Ballina Stephenites are breathing a sigh of relief after they preserved their senior status with a 2-7 to 0-10 victory over Lee Keegan's Westport at Elvery's MacHale Park this afternoon.
Ballina, who have a whopping 36 Moclair Cups to their name and were All-Ireland club champions as recently as 2005, needed a late goal from Alex Corduff to come out on top in the relegation final.
Evan Regan's first half goal had given the winners a slender 1-4 to 0-6 lead at the break, but Westport fought back to level at 0-10 to 1-7 before Corduff's late major condemned them to intermediate football for 2015.
Tomorrow, the attention switches to the two Mayo SFC semi-finals at MacHale Park. Holders Castlebar Mitchels face Knockmore in the first game at 2pm. This will be followed by the meeting of Knockmore and Ballintubber at 3.30pm.
