Gooch All-Ireland final appearance "a romantic notion"

Jack O'Connor believes it is highly unlikely that Colm Cooper will play any part in the 2014 All-Ireland SFC final.

The Kingdom's attacking talisman - ruled out for the entire season by a cruciate ligament tear in mid-February - raised some eyebrows at the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday night when he took his place on the Kerry bench and participated in the warm-up ahead of their All-Ireland semi-final replay defeat of Mayo.

With another three weeks to go before the national decider, he couldn't, could he? His former manager reckons not...

"You never say never. It will depend on the circumstances," the current Kerry minor boss states in The Irish Independent. "I'm certain the Gooch will be desperate to play, absolutely desperate to play but realistically he's only done the warm-ups, a bit of kicking, a bit of running and whatever.

"I don't think he has done any contact stuff, so unless he does full-on contact before the final then, no, it wouldn't be a runner at all. It would be a romantic notion but not a runner."
